Here you find the Via Tirreno pedestrian zone with shops, gelaterias and restaurants; direct buses from Trieste and Udine arrive here; and this is where Stadio Teghil and Aquasplash stand. If you want buzz, shopping and the harbour pier nearby, book in Sabbiadoro.

Lignano Pineta was laid out in 1953 by the architect Marcello D’Olivo as a spiral-shaped town plan — the famous “Spirale di Pineta”. Pineta is greener, quieter and somewhat pricier than Sabbiadoro. The Terrazza a Mare and the Raggio del Sole promenade ring are its architectural trademarks.

Lignano Riviera lies at the western end, nestled in the pine forest of Riviera and Punta Faro. It is noticeably quieter here, with many family apartments and bungalow residences, and the beach clubs are less crowded. Riviera suits a relaxed family holiday away from the Sabbiadoro promenade.

Getting there from Austria and Germany

Lignano has the fastest motorway access of all the Adriatic beaches for Austrian visitors. Via the A23 (Tarvisio) and A4 (Palmanova) it is around 1:45 h from Klagenfurt, about 4:30 h from Vienna and roughly 6 hours from Munich. Exit: A4 Latisana, then the SR354 straight to Lignano (15 min from the motorway). Latisana-Lignano-Bibione station with a bus shuttle is the most train-friendly option.

Who Lignano is the right beach for

Right for you if …

you are travelling from Austria (the shortest route to the Adriatic)

you want big concerts during your summer holiday (Stadio Teghil!)

you are looking for family apartments in the pine forest (Riviera, Pineta)

you are interested in architecture (Marcello D’Olivo’s spiral)

you need Aquasplash, Gulliverlandia and Parco Junior

Rather not if …

you are planning a day trip to Venice (1:30 h each way, no direct vaporetto)

you want a quiet, car-free island atmosphere (try Caorle instead)

you are looking for authentic Italian lagoon romance (try Cavallino-Treporti)

you need budget family accommodation in pine-forest campsites (try Bibione)

Hotels and package holidays in Lignano

We arrange hotels, apartments and package holidays for Lignano — through the classic tour operators as well as direct bookings in the residences of Pineta and Riviera.
