The bridge rests on a single stone arch over the Grand Canal and was considered an engineering marvel in its time. On the bridge itself there are two rows of shops (today mostly jewellery, souvenirs, Murano glass), two side walkways and the central main walkway with the best view. A comprehensive restoration, privately funded by OTB / Renzo Rosso (founder of Diesel), began in 2014 and, according to OTB, was completed in the second half of 2016 — it brought back the original brightness of the Istrian limestone.

→ Rialto Bridge — full history, architecture and tips

Frequently asked questions about the Rialto webcam

<details>
When is the bridge emptiest on the stream?

Between 5:30 and 7:00 a.m. — before the first wave of tourists.
