In short: The Scuola Grande di San Teodoro is a 16th-century brotherhood house in Campo San Salvador, between the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square. It is the concert home of the orchestra I Musici Veneziani, who play Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other Baroque works — plus opera evenings — in 18th-century Venetian costume. A concert lasts about 90 minutes and tickets start at roughly €30–40 depending on seller and category. It is the most theatrical of Venice’s Vivaldi evenings: choose it for the staging and the setting, not for a purist concert-hall sound.

Why the Scuola Grande di San Teodoro?

The Scuole Grandi were not monasteries but wealthy lay brotherhoods of the Venetian Republic — part charity, part guild, part patron of the arts. The Scuola di San Teodoro, dedicated to Venice’s first patron saint, was built from 1580 by a brotherhood of merchants and artisans. Its first-floor hall is a far grander room than the typical converted church used for tourist concerts.

What makes the evening distinctive is the staging: the musicians play in period costume, and on opera evenings singers join the orchestra. That gives the concert a theatrical, festive character — especially during Carnival and at New Year, when special programmes are scheduled.
