The prices (€5 advance booking, €10 at short notice) and the exemption rules for overnight guests, children under 14 and residents remain unchanged. If you booked in 2025, you know the system — the most important new feature is the extension of the valid days.

Three changes in detail

1. More valid days: 60 instead of 54

In 2024 the model started with a 29-day pilot phase, in 2025 there were 54 days, and in 2026 there are now 60 days between 3 April and 26 July. The city points to the 2025 effectiveness analysis: on valid days, day-visitor numbers fell by an average of 8–12%. The 2026 extension follows this management approach and above all adds extra Fridays and Sundays.

2. GDPR-compliant overhaul of the registration portal

In autumn 2025, the Italian data-protection authority imposed a €10,000 fine on the city of Venice. The reason: the previous ticket processing stored too much personal data from travellers, including from groups that are exempt from payment anyway. The city rebuilt the cda.ve.it portal in time for the 2026 season: fewer mandatory fields, a shorter storage period, clearer data-protection notices. Anyone who registered in 2025 must register again for 2026 — the old data was deleted.

3. Intensified checks

In 2024 around 8,000 fines were issued; in 2025 the number rose to 11,000. For 2026 the city police have expanded the inspection team and intensified spot checks at Santa Lucia station, Piazzale Roma, the Marittima and at individual vaporetto landing stages. Anyone travelling without a valid QR code pays a fine of €50 to €300, depending on the situation. Overnight guests are exempt, but must still register and have the code with them.

What has stayed the same in 2026

Prices: €5 for advance booking (at least 3 days before the trip), €10 for short-notice registration.

Time window of the fee requirement: 8:30am–4:00pm.

Exempt groups: overnight guests, children under 14, residents of the Veneto, commuters, students, people travelling for school/work/health/family visits.

Excluded from the fee area: the Lido, Sant’Erasmo, Murano, Burano, Torcello (all lagoon islands outside the historic centre).

Registration portal: cda.ve.it.

A practical tip

If you travel to Venice in Holy Week, at Whitsun, on public-holiday bridge days or on summer weekends between April and July, check the calendar beforehand to see whether your travel date is a valid day. The €5 is not the main effort — the main work lies in the compulsory registration. Even if you are exempt anyway (e.g. with a hotel booking in Venice), you must carry the QR code to get through checks without problems.

For the full calendar, step-by-step booking and all exemption details:

→ Venice access fee 2026 — the pillar page with all the dates

Related topics

Venice access fee 2026 — the complete overview

Getting to Venice — train, flight, car, bus

Day trips to Venice

Travel tips and safety

In a nutshell: The Venice access fee 2026 (Contributo di Accesso) brings three important changes compared with 2025: 60 instead of 54 valid days, a GDPR-compliant overhaul of the registration portal after a €10,000 fine against the city in autumn 2025, and intensified spot checks at the main entrances.
