Vaporetto Line 16 Venice: Park-and-Ride from Fusina to Zattere

In brief: Line 16 is the direct park-and-ride boat line between the mainland terminal Fusina (south-western edge of the lagoon, close to the A4) and the Zattere pier in Dorsoduro — non-stop, around 25 minutes across the southern lagoon. It is operated by ACTV but has its own special ticket (approx. €8 per ride) and is not included in the normal ACTV vaporetto day pass. Tickets can also be booked online with a QR code. Ideal for avoiding the expensive parking at Tronchetto or Piazzale Roma and arriving in the centre relaxed across the water.

The park-and-ride strategy via Fusina

If you arrive by car from the south (Bologna, Padua, Verona) or from the west (Milan, A4) and don’t want to pay the steep rates at the Tronchetto car park, park at the Terminal Fusina on the edge of the lagoon south-west of Marghera. Day parking there is considerably cheaper than at Tronchetto or Piazzale Roma. From the car park it is a few steps to the pier; there you board line 16 and reach the Zattere pier in Dorsoduro in about 25 minutes — from where the whole centre is within reach on foot or by other vaporetti.

The water route is scenically far more rewarding than driving in over the Ponte della Libertà — you travel along the southern lagoon with views of Santa Maria della Salute and Punta della Dogana. Important: the line 16 ticket (approx. €8 per ride) is bought separately and is not valid with the normal ACTV day or multi-day pass. Terminal Fusina also offers combined parking-plus-crossing packages.

Timetable and operation

Line 16 operates all year round as a direct Fusina ↔ Zattere connection, with seasonal frequencies — denser in summer and at weekend peaks, reduced in winter. The first departure from Fusina is in the morning, the last return from the Zattere in the early evening; the line does not run at night. As departure times change seasonally, check the current notice before travelling: the official ACTV “Linea 16” timetable and the Terminal Fusina website are authoritative.

Frequently asked questions about line 16

Is line 16 included in the normal vaporetto day pass?

No. Line 16 (Fusina–Zattere) has its own special ticket of about €8 per ride and is not included in the regular ACTV day or multi-day pass. Tickets are available at Terminal Fusina and online (with a QR code to show when boarding).

How long does the Fusina–Zattere crossing take?

Around 25 minutes as a direct, non-stop run across the southern lagoon to the Zattere pier in Dorsoduro.

How do I get to Terminal Fusina?

Via the A4 exit Mira-Oriago, then towards Fusina (approx. 8 km, signposted). Driving time from the motorway exit about 15–20 minutes. Car park and pier are right at the terminal.

Is line 16 worth it, or better Tronchetto?

For multi-day stays Fusina with line 16 is usually cheaper, because parking is much less expensive than at Tronchetto. For short stops under about four hours, Tronchetto is closer and often more practical. Factor the separate line 16 ticket into the comparison.

Does line 16 run at night?

No — service ends in the early evening. If you stay in the centre longer, plan an alternative way back (other parking options, bus or taxi).
