Venice Webcams: Live Streams from the Grand Canal, San Marco and the Lagoon

Grand Canal and bridges

Venice’s main waterway from several perspectives — from the Rialto Bridge and hotel-window views to the Scalzi Bridge by the station.

St Mark’s Square and the lagoon

The most important stream for the acqua alta check, plus the lagoon from the bird’s-eye view of the Cantieri Biasin.

Sestieri and city squares

Authentic everyday perspectives from two of Venice’s most important squares — away from the tourist flows of St Mark’s and Rialto.

Beach holiday? Live cams of the Adriatic hubs

If you are heading for one of the seven Adriatic beach hubs rather than the lagoon city, you will find the live webcams from Jesolo (4 cams), Cavallino-Treporti and Chioggia/Sottomarina here: Adriatic beach webcams. Each beach also comes with live weather and a 5-day forecast.

Best times of day for the streams

  • Morning 6:00–9:00: little vaporetto traffic, soft morning light, empty calli. Ideal for atmosphere (Ponte delle Guglie, hotel perspectives).
  • Midday 11:00–14:00: full day tourism, high activity on the Grand Canal and at the Rialto Bridge.
  • Golden hour 17:00–20:00 (summer): the best light, San Marco Basin and Laguna Nord glow orange-red.
  • Evening 19:00–22:00: Teatro La Fenice (performance time) or Campo Santa Maria Formosa (aperitivo time) are lively.
  • Night 22:00–6:00: a still lagoon, the lights of St Mark’s Square, the Salute dome and Rialto reflected on the water. Romantic, almost meditative.

Who operates the webcams?

Most of the Venice streams embedded here are operated by I Love You Venice — an independent YouTube channel that has installed several live cameras at touristically and culturally relevant points in the city. The streams are free, ad-funded via YouTube and run 24/7 without interruption (except for maintenance or network problems). Some streams (e.g. Hotel Pausania, Hotel San Cassiano, Hotel U-Visionary) are partnerships with Venetian hotels that have installed cameras on their façades or balconies.

We have not installed cameras of our own — we link to the best available public streams. If a stream goes offline, we replace it with an alternative.

Frequently asked questions about the Venice webcams

Are the webcam streams really live or recordings?

Really live. All streams run around the clock and show Venice in real time. At night you see the lights at the Salute, San Marco, Rialto and La Fenice; by day the full boat traffic and everyday life. If you open several streams in parallel, you also hear the soundscape from different parts of the city.

Which webcam is the most important for trip planning?

Three combined: Grand Canal from hotel windows for weather and visibility, San Marco Basin for the acqua alta check (the most important stream when there is high-water risk), Rialto Bridge for how busy the city is. If you open all three briefly at 8:00 on your travel day, you know very precisely what to expect.

Which webcam shows St Mark’s Square directly?

Currently the San Marco Basin stream shows the lagoon side of the Piazza (fondamenta + Riva degli Schiavoni). A separate stream directly onto the Piazza San Marco is in preparation and will be added as soon as it is available.

What if a stream is offline?

The YouTube streams very rarely go offline, usually only during storms or maintenance. If a stream does not load: wait briefly, reload the page, or go directly to the stream overview of the “I Love You Venice” channel on YouTube. If a stream fails permanently, we replace it with an alternative.

Are there webcams on the Adriatic or in Murano/Burano?

For the Adriatic beaches (Jesolo, Cavallino-Treporti, Chioggia/Sottomarina) we have a dedicated overview page: Adriatic beach webcams. Directly from Murano or Burano, not at present — but via the Laguna Nord webcam (Cantieri Biasin) you can see the island of Murano and Sant’Erasmo from a distance in clear weather. In the meantime: Venice islands — overview and tips.

Do the webcams work on a smartphone?

Yes, all streams are YouTube-based and run automatically on mobile devices too. iOS users: in Safari, “auto-play” must be enabled for YouTube, otherwise you have to start the stream manually. Mobile data: each stream uses about 30–50 MB per hour — considerably less at reduced resolution.

At what tide level is St Mark’s Square under water on the webcam?

From about 90 cm at the Punta della Salute reference point, acqua alta starts to become visible on St Mark’s Square. At 100 cm a larger part of the Piazza is under water. At 110+ cm the MOSE storm-surge barrier is activated and closes the lagoon. → Acqua alta Venice — levels and forecast
