Mein Schiff Flow christened in Trieste: fireworks and three godmothers

von mike Tourism News

On Saturday, 20 June 2026, TUI Cruises christened its newest ship, the Mein Schiff Flow, in the port area of Trieste, against the backdrop of the city. Three godmothers from the Mein Schiff community jointly took on the role. The programme included a performance by Tim Bendzko and a large fireworks display over the harbour; Rea Garvey had already performed the evening before as part of the naming cruise.

The ship had been handed over to TUI Cruises on 12 June 2026 by the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone on the Gulf of Trieste — a region that, depending on the connection, lies about two to two and a half hours from Venice. The Mein Schiff Flow is the second ship of the InTUItion class after the Mein Schiff Relax.

The christening in Trieste: fireworks and three godmothers

Under the motto “Go with the Flow”, TUI Cruises spread the naming programme across several locations and segments on board. The three godmothers were jointly involved in the ceremony. The evening closed with a large fireworks display over the port of Trieste.

For the first time in the company’s history, three godmothers jointly took on the role: Julia, Annabelle and Karin were selected from around 900 applicants. More than 15,000 votes from the Mein Schiff community fed into the final choice. Designer Guido Maria Kretschmer selected a couture dress from his collection for each of the three godmothers. The musical programme featured Rea Garvey on 19 June and Tim Bendzko on the naming day itself.

The ship: Mein Schiff Flow at a glance

The Mein Schiff Flow was built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone on the Gulf of Trieste. Technically it has a dual-fuel propulsion system for LNG and marine gas oil, a shore-power connection and systems for exhaust after-treatment and waste-heat recovery — equipment intended to reduce energy consumption and certain emissions compared with older generations of ships.

The naming cruises: Trieste – Koper – Trieste – Palermo – Palma

The christening was part of two eight-night naming cruises: from 17 to 25 June and from 18 to 26 June 2026. The route ran from Trieste first to Koper (Slovenia), then back to Trieste for the christening and on via Palermo (Sicily) to Palma de Mallorca. Trieste and nearby Monfalcone thus continue to gain importance as departure ports for the German-speaking market.

Especially for travellers from Austria, southern Germany and the Alpine region, Trieste is a comparatively easy cruise port to reach by train or car. Anyone combining the upper Adriatic with a cruise can pair the journey with a day or two in Venice or Trieste. For an overview of departure ports, terminals and procedures, see our page on cruises from Venice and the upper Adriatic; a day trip to Trieste is also worthwhile as a pre- or post-cruise programme.
