Hotels in Venice & on the Adriatic — nine hand-picked houses

Why these hotels?

Our selection deliberately concentrates on hotels with a genuinely good location, stable guest ratings over several years, a clearly recognisable concept and practical access for travellers arriving from Northern Europe. We distinguish between beach holidays on the upper Adriatic (Jesolo, Caorle), city breaks in Venice, spa hotels, family hotels, boutique and honeymoon addresses, and combinations of Venice with a beach stay. The point is that you can see at a glance which hotel suits your style of travel, without working through hundreds of reviews.

Hotels on the Adriatic

Three premium hotels on the sandy upper Adriatic coast — two in Lido di Jesolo (the quieter eastern Pineta stretch and the main beach centre), one in the historic old town of Caorle.

Almar Jesolo Resort & Spa

5 stars | Jesolo Pineta — Directly on the quiet stretch of beach in the eastern Pineta area. 2,000 m² wellness spa, 70-metre outdoor pool. Best suited to couples and spa travellers.

Hotels in Venice — the lagoon islands

Two larger branded hotels on the lagoon islands of Murano and Giudecca — both with a water shuttle to the old town and an island atmosphere you will not find in the centre.

Hyatt Centric Murano Venice

4 stars | Murano — A boutique hotel in a former glass furnace, 119 rooms with Murano glass design, hotel boat shuttle to Venice and the airport (terms vary by season). Best suited to travellers who want to commute into Venice and to anyone interested in the glass trade.

How we choose

We do not add hotels automatically. Every hotel on this page has been checked by hand — for location, guest ratings across several years, the state of the building, target group, accessibility and value for money. What matters most to us is ratings that hold up over time and a concept you can actually describe in a sentence. When a hotel changes direction (a family mix instead of adults-only, a new restaurant concept, a different shuttle frequency), we update the recommendation — and if you find something here that no longer matches reality, we would be glad to hear about it.

  • Location: a precise setting — sestiere, stretch of beach, distance to the centre — instead of vague claims about a “prime position”
  • Ratings: stable scores on Booking, Google and Tripadvisor; we ignore short-lived spikes
  • Condition: we prefer houses whose last major renovation or opening is documented
  • A clear target group: a hotel should know who it is for — family all-rounder, adults-only spa, city boutique and so on
  • Practical access: flights, rail connections and transfer options have to be workable
  • Value for money: we do not link the most expensive hotel in each place, but the one that fits best

How booking works

  • Step 1: Tell us which hotel and which dates you have in mind, or ask us to suggest one.
  • Step 2: We check live availability with our tour operators — for the hotel alone or as a package with flights, depending on what the hotel offers.
  • Step 3: You choose the board arrangement — bed & breakfast, half board, full board or all inclusive, as far as the hotel offers it.
  • Step 4: The booking is completed through our travel-agency backend at Schmetterling — GDPR-compliant, with the option of trip cancellation cover and a named contact for any questions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book the hotel without a flight?

Yes. All nine hotels listed here can be booked room-only, without a flight, with you arranging your own travel. Eight of the nine are additionally available as a package including flights — the exception is Almar Jesolo, which is currently hotel-only. If a package shows no availability for a given hotel, only the room-only option is bookable; we are happy to add flights and transfers separately through our travel advice.

Which hotel is closest to St Mark’s Square?

Hotel Ca’ dei Conti in Sestiere Castello, at roughly three minutes on foot. Then come Hotel Nani Mocenigo Palace at about 15 minutes (across the Accademia bridge), Santa Croce Boutique Hotel at about 25 minutes and Carnival Palace at 25–30. Hilton Molino Stucky on Giudecca is 15 minutes from St Mark’s by boat, Hyatt Centric Murano 20–25 minutes with the hotel shuttle.

Which hotel works best for families with children?

The Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Jesolo, without much hesitation. It has its own kids’ club with an activity team (Falky-Land), children’s pools, a playground, children’s menus, and the Seaside Penthouse as a two-bedroom family unit.

Which hotel works best for a honeymoon?

Six good options, depending on what you are after: Hotel Nani Mocenigo Palace (five-star luxury in a patrician palazzo), Hotel Ca’ dei Conti (classic baroque beside St Mark’s Square), Santa Croce Boutique Hotel (small and intimate, themed rooms), Carnival Palace Hotel (whirlpool suites in Cannaregio), AQA Palace Caorle (Junior Suite Spa) or Hilton Molino Stucky (five-star luxury with a view across the water).

Which hotel is best for art and museum trips?

Hotel Nani Mocenigo Palace in Sestiere Dorsoduro — in the artistic heart of the city. The Gallerie dell’Accademia are five minutes away on foot, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection ten, and Ca’ Rezzonico, the Salute and San Sebastiano all within 10–15 minutes. It also looks directly onto the Squero di San Trovaso, one of the last working gondola yards.

Can I combine Venice with a beach holiday?

Yes, and it is a popular combination. The usual pattern is two to three nights in Venice followed by four to five nights on the Adriatic (Almar Jesolo or Falkensteiner Jesolo). Jesolo is only about 50 km from Venice and Caorle about 65 km, so the transfer between them works by hire car, by boat via Punta Sabbioni, or by train.

Which hotel has the best spa?

By size: Almar Jesolo has the largest wellness area with its 2,000 m² Almablu spa, followed by the Falkensteiner with 1,500 m² of Acquapura spa. Hilton Molino Stucky has the eForea spa plus a seasonal rooftop pool. AQA Palace and Carnival Palace offer private in-room spa or whirlpool facilities. The old-town hotels (Nani Mocenigo, Ca’ dei Conti, Santa Croce) are classic city hotels without a large spa.

When is the best time to travel?

For a beach holiday on the Adriatic: June and September. For a city break in Venice: April–May and September–October. The Carnival season (February/March) is its own thing — dense and atmospheric, with Ca’ dei Conti and Carnival Palace the obvious choices. July and August are the most expensive and most crowded everywhere; winter (November to February) is atmospheric in Venice but carries the risk of acqua alta. During the Biennale, Dorsoduro is especially sought after.

Can I bring a pet?

Most of our hotels accept smaller dogs if you notify them in advance and pay a fee, but the rules change from year to year. It is best to clarify the exact conditions in advance through our travel advice.

How many hotels will you add?

We are expanding the selection deliberately. Next in line are further sestieri in the old town (San Marco, Lido di Venezia), Cavallino-Treporti as a family resort region, Bibione, Lignano Sabbiadoro and Grado. We add one to three hotels per region rather than whole lists — quality over quantity.
