Piazza Ferretto: Christmas market and ice rink

Piazza Ferretto is the main square of Mestre and the starting point of the Christmas lights, which last year ran for about 50 kilometres along the shopping streets of the terraferma, such as Viale Garibaldi, Corso del Popolo and Via Piave. Last year about 30 wooden huts with crafts and specialities stood on the square. The ice rink opened longer at weekends and holidays than on weekdays; around the Immaculate Conception (8 December) it was open until 9 pm on some days. Gloves were compulsory. Prices and hours for 2026/27 are still open.

New Year’s Eve in Mestre

At the turn of 2025/26 a party with music and a show took place on Piazza Ferretto, and the city opened registrations for it. If you are planning for 2026/27, wait for the city programme: time, performers and any fireworks are not yet known.

Combining Christmas in Mestre with Venice

Mestre and the old town belong to the same city and are connected by train, tram and bus; the train between Mestre and Venezia Santa Lucia takes about ten minutes. The city programme spreads across the terraferma and the old town; last year there were ice rinks on Piazza Ferretto, in Campo San Polo and in Marghera. For getting there and parking see Venice without a car.
