This overview shows all the weekly markets, fish markets and summer night markets of the beach resorts on the Adriatic that are popular with German-speaking visitors, between the lagoon town of Chioggia and Lignano in Friuli. You can filter by weekday and town — so if you want to know “which market is best today?” or “what is on on Thursday near my hotel in Lignano?”, this is where to find the answer.

Are you in Venice itself? The markets of the lagoon city — Rialto, the neighbourhood markets, the Lido and the Thursday market and fish market in the old town of Chioggia — are collected on our page Markets in Venice & the lagoon.

It ran from the second half of June into the first half of September. Full details, dates and background in the article: New weekly market in Jesolo — the Wednesday market in Via dei Mille 2026.

What makes the Adriatic markets special

The northern Adriatic has two types of market you will not find like this in Germany or Austria. First, the daily fish markets (Mercato Ittico) in the lagoon towns — Chioggia has the largest on the northern Adriatic, Grado the most authentic smaller one. Direct sale from the fisherman to the customer, and a supply hub for restaurants from Venice, Padua and Verona. Second, the summer night markets in Cavallino-Treporti and in Sottomarina — evening street markets with crafts, street food and live music. In Sottomarina in 2026 they took place under the name “Area Relax” on only five Saturdays (18 and 25 July and 1, 8 and 15 August), in the evening on the promenade between Piazza Todaro and the Murazzi. Both exist only in the Adriatic region.

Market days at a glance

Most regular weekly markets are concentrated on Thursday and Saturday. Tip: if you are on holiday in Bibione, Cavallino or Caorle, you can visit the markets of the neighbouring towns on different weekdays — the distances are often under 30 km.

Frequently asked questions

Cash or card?

Cash is king at the weekly markets. Most stalls do not take cards. This applies even more to the fish markets — the small fishermen usually have no card terminals. Bring €50–80 in cash per person, which covers a typical market shop including cheese, wine and lunch.

When is it worth visiting the fish market in Chioggia?

Retail sales start at 11 am (Tuesday–Saturday). If you have a holiday home with a kitchen, go between 11 am and 12 noon — then the choice is still large and nothing is sold out yet. If you only want to take photos: between 7 and 9 am, when the boats come back and the wholesale trade is under way. All the details are on the page Markets in Venice & the lagoon.

Are the markets all the same, or is it worth visiting several?

For the most part the range is the same (Italian beachwear, leather, household goods). The differences are in the food section: in Friuli (Lignano, Grado) you get San Daniele prosciutto and Montasio cheese, in the Veneto more Asiago, Bassano asparagus and Lison wine. Do visit the fish markets — they are unique to the region.

My market is missing from the list — what can I do?

Write to us via the contact form or the travel-agency email. We are happy to add new markets (for example summer antiques markets or smaller village markets in the hinterland).
