Highlight: 73rd National Bersaglieri Rally

The Raduno Nazionale dei Bersaglieri is a tradition of more than 70 years, run by one of the best-known Italian military corps. The 73rd edition was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Friuli earthquake — a reminder of the Bersaglieri’s relief work for the affected population. It opened on Wednesday 27 May with a concert; the high point was Sunday 31 May with the famous running parade “di corsa” along the Lungomare and a Frecce Tricolori fly-past in the morning. Anyone travelling at this time should book accommodation early — many hotels are fully booked weeks in advance.

The “Sport and Solidarity” meeting is an athletics meet with more than 200 professional athletes from around 30 countries — one of the longest-established sporting events in Italy. Beach rugby and the skateboard championship are crowd-pullers for the younger generation, both with free admission.
Classical music on the beach: sunrise concert at the summer solstice

An unusual event: classical music is played on the sand at Punta Faro Beach while the sun rises over the Adriatic. Arriving by bike or on foot is recommended — parking at the lighthouse is limited. Bring blankets, a warm jacket and a flask; the morning is still cool even on 21 June.

The Venetian ensemble Rondò Veneziano — baroque melody over a modern rhythm section, a million-seller in the 1980s and 1990s above all in German-speaking countries — returned to the stage after years. According to the organiser Futura Eventi, Lignano was the only date of the world tour “The Grand Return” in north-eastern Italy. It was also the first touring summer under the new artistic direction of Stefano Marchioro.
