How to read the “Status” column: approved means the city government decided it on 15 October 2026 and the portal cda.ve.it shows it. Announced means the city has named a date but not yet published anything. Open means there is no official statement for 2027 yet. Where we borrow from the 2026 rules, we say so explicitly.

What is new in 2027 compared with 2026?

The decision of 15 October 2026 changes three things: more days, an earlier start and longer hours each day. The full review of the 2026 season is in the article Venice access fee 2026.

Two ten-day blocks: From 23 April to 2 May (Liberation Day on 25 April, Labour Day on 1 May) and from 28 May to 6 June (Festa della Repubblica on 2 June) the fee applies every day. Whitsun (Sunday, 16 May) and the Redentore weekend (traditionally the third Sunday in July, so 17/18 July in 2027) fall on fee days.

Monday to Thursday: only nine days affected

If you are flexible, the easiest way to save the fee is the weekday. From April to August only these nine days fall on Monday to Thursday: Easter Monday 29 March, 26 to 29 April and 31 May to 3 June. All other Mondays to Thursdays are free under the decision. Friday to Sunday, on the other hand, are almost always fee days from April to July.

Quick decision: which situation fits your trip?

Weekend day trip, April to July

Almost every Friday, Saturday and Sunday is a fee day. Budget up to €10 per person and register as soon as the portal opens. Alternatively move your visit to Monday–Thursday.

City break with a hotel in Venice or Mestre

Under the 2026 rules, overnight guests in the municipality of Venice do not pay the access fee but must register. The city still has to confirm this for 2027. See Mestre as a base.

Family with children under 14

In 2026 children under 14 were exempt; carry ID. Adults pay per person. Check the exemptions once the city publishes them for 2027.

Easter in Venice (26 to 29 March)

The whole Easter weekend through Easter Monday is covered. That is new: in 2026 the season only began on 3 April.

Whitsun, bridge days and 2 June

23 April to 2 May and 28 May to 6 June are fee days throughout. In these weeks expect the fee on weekdays too.

Redentore or Ferragosto

Both fall on fee days in 2027 (17/18 July and 13 to 15 August). Arriving in the evening puts you outside the hours after 4:30 pm; details on checks are still missing.

Travel in late summer, autumn or winter 2027

Under the decision there are no fee days after 15 August 2027. Carnival in February 2027 is before the season starts. See also Venice in winter.

Employees, students, commuters

Under the 2026 rules certain groups were exempt but had to prove their status. The list for 2027 is still pending; please check cda.ve.it before you travel.

What is not yet decided

The decision of 15 October 2026 only fixes the calendar, the hours and the maximum amount. According to the city and the portal cda.ve.it, the following is still open:

  • Price tiers: whether there will again be €5 and €10 or different levels.
  • Exemptions: who does not pay in 2027 and how status is proven.
  • Booking, payment and checks: procedure, portal opening date and checkpoints.
  • Penalties: in 2026 fines were €25 to €150 plus the fee; there is no new statement for 2027.
  • Area covered: whether only the old town remains affected.

The portal says the rules will be published by 31 December 2026 at the latest. Until then, do not treat any price as binding.

Why 72 days? The development since 2024

YearFee daysPeriodHours
20242925 April to 14 July8:30–16:00
202554from 18 April to the end of July8:30–16:00
2026603 April to 26 July8:30–16:00
20277226 March to 15 August8:30–16:30

The city describes the fee as a trial and is continuing it for the fourth year in a row. The councillor for the budget and the councillor for tourism see it as one building block alongside data collection and monitoring. An increase to up to €30, discussed in September 2026, is not part of the decision.

How and where do you book the access fee 2027?

Payment and registration run exclusively through the city’s official portal: cda.ve.it. For 2027 the portal is not yet open for bookings; the city has not named an opening date. As a guide, the 2026 process: register or pay online, receive a QR code and show it at checks. Exempt visitors had to register too. Whether this process stays the same in 2027 is not yet known.

Planning: accommodation, arrival and alternatives

Anyone staying overnight in the municipality of Venice paid the overnight tax instead in 2026 and was exempt from the access fee. That includes Mestre and the Lido. Hotels in the old town are inside the area covered. For arriving without a car see Venice without a car, for the airport Marco Polo and for parking parking in Venice. If you plan to visit museums, the passes comparison compares admission prices. No pass covers the access fee.

Rules of conduct and fines

Besides the access fee, Venice has rules of conduct with their own fines. An overview with the official amounts is in the article Fines in Venice.
