Chioggia Weekly Market — Thursday Market, Fish Market & Sottomarina Evening Markets 2026
Chioggia has two markets that are worth a visit every time: the classic weekly market on Thursday on the Corso del Popolo and the daily fish market (Mercato Ittico) on the Canal Vena — the latter is the largest fish market on the northern Adriatic and a supply hub for restaurants from Venice, Padua and Verona.

What you find at the fish market
Everything the Adriatic and the lagoon have to offer. Branzino (sea bass), orata (gilt-head bream), anchovies, sardines, cefali (mullet), San Pietro (John Dory), calamari, polpi (octopus), moleche (lagoon soft-shell crabs), vongole, cozze. In spring the seasonal moeche crabs, which are only sold for a few weeks a year and count as a delicacy in Venice.
Tip: wholesale from 4 am (for restaurants), retail sales only from 11 am. Bring cash — the small fishermen’s stalls have hardly any card terminals.
Sottomarina: “Area Relax” evening markets 2026
In 2026 the evening markets of Sottomarina took place on only five Saturdays: 18 and 25 July and 1, 8 and 15 August. They belong to the “Area Relax” initiative, in which the promenade between Piazza Todaro and the Murazzi becomes a pedestrian zone in the evening — with craft stalls from local exhibitors, open-air food and a live programme. The last date fell on Ferragosto (15 August). Check the local tourist office for dates in later years.
Important for drivers: on these evenings Via San Marco between Viale Adige and Viale Piemonte was closed to car traffic from 6 pm to 1 am. Vehicles parked there were towed — if you come by car, park outside this stretch. The event was organised by DMO Chioggia Tourism, the municipality of Chioggia, Ascom Confcommercio and Confesercenti.
