Location: island of Giudecca, right on the water

The island of Giudecca lies directly opposite the historic centre of Venice — a narrow strip of water (the Giudecca Canal) separates it from the sestiere of Dorsoduro. The Hilton Molino Stucky stands at the western end of the island and looks across the water towards the Zattere promenade and the Salute church. Giudecca itself is quiet, shaped by locals and far less developed for tourism than the old town — a perfect counterweight to the often overcrowded St Mark’s area.

The quiet location means: by day the full Venice programme (St Mark’s in about 15 minutes by hotel shuttle or vaporetto), in the evening real peace — no crowds right outside the hotel door, no noise. → More about Giudecca as a destination.

Architecture: the old Stucky Mill

The building is the former Molino Stucky — a 19th-century mill built in 1895 by the Swiss-Italian industrialist Giovanni Stucky. Until the 1950s one of the most important industrial ensembles of the lagoon, then empty for decades, expensively restored from 2002 and opened as a Hilton hotel in 2007. The iconic brick complex with steel industrial elements is today one of Italy’s most striking examples of industrial architecture conversion. Inside, the character has been kept — visible timber ceilings, cast-iron columns, high rooms, combined with modern Hilton luxury interiors.

Rooms and suites

With 379 units there is a wide range — from the standard room to the top suite:

  • Standard and Deluxe rooms — modern Hilton furnishings, marble bathrooms, air conditioning, smart TV, minibar
  • Molino rooms and suites — in the historic mill building, with timber ceilings and industrial charm
  • Executive rooms — access to the Executive Lounge with its own breakfast, aperitif and snacks
  • Junior and Premium suites — spacious layouts, many with a view of the water, Dorsoduro or the Salute
  • Top suites (Presidential, Diplomatic) — their own lounge areas, premium service

Recommendation: if you want the full wow effect, choose a room or suite with a water view — the surcharge is worth it. Executive rooms may save you the breakfast price, because breakfast in the Executive Lounge is included.

Rooftop pool and Skyline Bar — the main attraction

The absolute star of the house is the rooftop deck: an outdoor pool with a panoramic view over Venice — the Salute dome, the St Mark’s campanile, the lagoon as far as Murano. Next to it is the Skyline Rooftop Bar with cocktails, aperitivo and a sunset mood. The ensemble is considered one of the most beautiful rooftop experiences in Venice.

Dining — several restaurants and bars

  • Aromi — upscale restaurant with refined Venetian and Mediterranean cuisine, à la carte in the evening
  • Bacaromi — traditional Venetian bacaro atmosphere, cicchetti, wines, more relaxed
  • Il Molino — large breakfast buffet in the mill hall, live cooking stations
  • Skyline Rooftop Bar — cocktails with a lagoon view, aperitivo hour, one of the most beautiful sundowner spots in Venice
  • Rialto Bar & Restaurant — day bar in the lobby, lighter menu

eForea Spa and fitness

The hotel’s own eForea Spa offers massages, facial and body treatments, aromatherapy, a sauna, a Turkish steam bath, a whirlpool and a quiet relax area. High quality, but not a huge resort spa — if you want a 2,000 m² large spa, you are better off at the Almar Jesolo. The eForea suits city stays with a few relaxing hours between the Venice tours. There is also a modern gym with high-quality equipment.

Getting to Venice — the decisive point

From the Hilton Molino Stucky you reach the historic centre in two ways:

  • Hotel shuttle boat to the St Mark’s area (about 15 min) — convenient, luggage-friendly, but for a fee (tariff per person and trip, ask at check-in). Unlike the Hyatt Centric Murano, where the shuttle is free.
  • Public vaporetto — line 2 or 4.1/4.2 from Palanca, Redentore or Zitelle (all directly on Giudecca, a few minutes’ walk from the hotel). Much cheaper with a day pass than the shuttle, but no direct transfer to the hotel pier.

For most day trips into the old town the vaporetto option is the most economical — the shuttle boat is mainly practical on arrival/departure with luggage or for spontaneous evening returns.

Who the Hilton Molino Stucky suits best

Decision helper: does the Hilton suit your travel style?
Traveller typeFit
Honeymoons / romance with a lagoon view★★★★★ — water views from the premium suites, Skyline Bar at sunset, quiet island atmosphere
Premium enjoyers / luxury travellers★★★★★ — 5-star Hilton standard, concierge service, suites with premium furnishings
Architecture and industrial-heritage fans★★★★★ — one of Italy’s most iconic industrial architecture conversions
Business / conferences / MICE★★★★★ — large hotel with event space, meeting rooms, the Hilton loyalty programme
Visiting Venice (city + culture)★★★★☆ — very good location for the old town, but the shuttle is paid (the Hyatt Murano has a free shuttle)
Wellness as the main purpose★★★☆☆ — eForea spa solid, but not a large resort spa; for a spa focus rather the Almar Jesolo
Families with children★★★★☆ — family rooms, babysitting, child-friendly menus, pool (seasonal) — a solid family base
Pool / swimming holiday★★☆☆☆ — the rooftop pool is only seasonal and with a slot system; no classic pool holiday possible
Party holidaymakers / club nightlife★★☆☆☆ — the Skyline Bar until midnight is atmospheric but not a club; Giudecca itself is quiet in the evening
Backpackers / budget travellers★☆☆☆☆ — clearly in the premium segment, not a fit

Board basis — which option to choose?

  • Breakfast only (BB) — recommended for most stays. The buffet at Il Molino is generous, and there are so many restaurants in Venice to explore in the evening that half board would be almost wasted.
  • Executive room (instead of HB) — an alternative route: the Executive Lounge includes breakfast, aperitif and snacks — often smarter than classic half board.
  • Half board (HB) — only sensible if you deliberately want to experience the Aromi kitchen several times
  • Full board (FB) — rarely chosen, Venice has too many good addresses outside

Frequently asked questions about the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice

Can the rooftop pool be used all year round?

No — the pool is seasonal, usually from May to September. Because the rooftop terrace is small, a slot reservation in 2-hour blocks applies. If the pool is your main reason for booking, have the season and availability confirmed by phone with the hotel beforehand. In the off-season the eForea spa with its whirlpool is an indoor substitute.

How do I get from the hotel to the centre of Venice?

Two ways: 1) The hotel shuttle boat directly to Piazza San Marco (about 15 min), for a fee — convenient with luggage. 2) Vaporetto line 2 or 4.1/4.2 from Palanca, Redentore or Zitelle — cheaper with a day pass, but no direct transfer to the hotel. For most day tours the vaporetto is enough.

What distinguishes the Hilton from the Hyatt Centric Murano and the Almar Jesolo?

Three very different travel ideas: the Hilton Molino Stucky is a classic 5-star large hotel in a historic industrial building — lots of service, several restaurants, a rooftop pool, a premium atmosphere. The Hyatt Centric Murano is a small boutique hotel on a quiet island with a free boat shuttle (the Hilton shuttle costs). The Almar Jesolo is a wellness and beach resort on the Adriatic — a different concept, with a private beach and a 2,000 m² spa. A combination is possible: Hilton or Hyatt for the Venice days, the Almar for the relaxation days.

Is there a beach at the Hilton Molino Stucky?

No — Giudecca has no beach, and the Hilton lies right on the water of the Giudecca Canal. For beach days in the lagoon the Lido di Venezia is recommended (reachable by vaporetto, about 30 min), or one of the Adriatic beaches in Jesolo or Cavallino — see Adriatic beaches compared.

Is the hotel family-friendly?

Yes — there are family rooms, a babysitting service on request, child-friendly menus in the restaurants, and the rooftop pool is also open to children in season (with supervision and under the slot system). The hotel has no animation programme, however — for a classic family holiday with a kids’ club, the Almar Jesolo or another resort is the better choice.

Which time of year is best?

April–June and September–October are the golden times for Venice — good weather, less crowded than high summer, the rooftop pool already/still open on the edge days. July–August are expensive and hot, but the pool is certainly open. Winter (Nov–Feb) is atmospherically dense, with the carnival peak in February, but the pool is closed. Acqua alta can occasionally affect vaporetto connections; the Hilton itself is raised and not affected.

Are pets allowed?

The Hilton Molino Stucky usually accepts small to medium-sized dogs for a fee and on advance notice. Conditions change every year — we recommend having them clarified in advance via our travel advice.

Are Executive rooms worthwhile?

Often yes. Executive rooms have access to the Executive Lounge with its own breakfast, an afternoon aperitif and evening drinks. If you travel alone, or as a couple without a wish for half board, you often save the extra cost of breakfast + aperitivo elsewhere, and the lounge experience itself has a value.
