Cavallino-Treporti with Kids 2026: Pirate Ship from Your Campsite, Lagoon & Venice Day
In short: Cavallino-Treporti is camping country — and a family holiday works differently here than in the hotel resort next door. The strongest item on the programme is literally in front of your pitch: the pirate cruise “Jolly Roger” calls at eight campsites right on the beach (Marina di Venezia, Union Lido, Garden Paradiso, Ca’ Savio, Europa, Mediterraneo, Sant’Angelo, Residence) — 90 minutes, Monday to Friday. But: in Cavallino there is no jetty — you wade into the water and climb a ladder on board. With toddlers it is better to board in Jesolo. In addition: a gently shelving beach, cycle paths into the lagoon towards Lio Piccolo — and, with Punta Sabbioni, the shortest way to Venice of all the Adriatic resorts. The big parks are in the neighbouring resort of Jesolo.
On the Cavallino peninsula lies one of the largest camping areas in Europe — and that shapes the holiday: short distances, lots of time outdoors, the sea on one side and the lagoon on the other. This page shows what that means for families in concrete terms. All details were checked directly with the providers in July 2026.
Staying in a hotel in Lido di Jesolo? Then Jesolo with kids is the better page — it focuses on Caribe Bay and the Tropicarium. And if you are staying in Venice itself: Venice with kids.
The pirate cruise calls at your campsite
This is what sets Cavallino apart from all the other Adriatic resorts: the galleon Jolly Roger has no central landing stage here but calls at the beaches of the big campsites. If you are staying at one of them, the pirate ship is a beach walk away — no car, no bus, no parking search.

Behind it lies an unusual story: Andrea Longo built his first ship model out of wood at the age of ten — a galleon with small cannons and hemp sails — and did not give up the idea as an adult. His first galleon was launched in 1998. Today the company runs two replicas of Venetian galleons of the kind the Republic built between 1500 and 1800. The company is based in Cavallino-Treporti, on Via Capo Horn.
The programme: 90 minutes along the coast. The children become crew with a tattoo and a headscarf, practise knots, and there are competitions and music — then the enemy galleon appears on the horizon and a staged boarding manoeuvre follows with cannon and pistol shots. To finish, a drink for the little pirates and a prosecco for the big ones.
The catch: in Cavallino you board through the water
Hardly any page mentions it — and it decides between a relaxed and a wet start. There is no jetty here. The operator puts it unmistakably: in Cavallino-Treporti you have to walk into the water and climb a ladder on board. Only in Lido di Jesolo (Piazza Brescia, Piazza Trento, Piazza Nember) do you board dry from the pier.
| Departure point | How you get on board | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Cavallino-Treporti eight campsites on the beach | Wade into the water, climb the ladder | Families with older children — in return the departure is right in front of your accommodation |
| Lido di Jesolo Piazza Brescia, Trento, Nember | Dry via the jetty | Toddlers, grandparents, anyone who does not want to get into the water — but you have to travel there |
What else you should know
- Monday to Friday only — the pirate cruise does not run at the weekend. If you arrive on a Saturday and leave on a Saturday, you have five possible days.
- Supervision in English and Italian, not German. Since a lot is demonstrated rather than explained, this is no obstacle for most children — but do not expect a German-language programme.
- No food on board — drinks yes, meals no.
- Beach clothes are enough (sensible in Cavallino anyway); smoking is forbidden, electric wheelchairs are not allowed.
- The souvenir is a headscarf — a review of 10 July 2026 criticised exactly that as too little for the price. Overall rating 4.5 out of 5, though on a narrow base of 15 reviews.
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours beforehand — a reason to book early if the weather is uncertain.
Pirate cruise: dates and availability
Departure times depend on the campsite. Check date, boarding point and current price here — choose the beach section where you are actually staying. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.
Beach, bike and lagoon — the free days
On this coast the free days are often the better ones. The beach shelves gently — the key difference for small children compared with steeper sections. And because the hinterland is completely flat, the bicycle works here as a family means of transport, not just as sports equipment.
The most rewarding route leads inland towards Lio Piccolo and Mesole: through salt marshes, past orchards and old farmsteads, with a realistic chance of seeing flamingos in the lagoon basins. It is the trip children remember later — and it costs nothing apart from hire bikes. If you prefer to be closer to nature, take a kayak instead of the bike and paddle through the lagoon canals.
Add the weekly markets — fruit, cheese, toys, and more for children to look at than in any souvenir shop. How full the beach is right now is shown by the live webcam from the Enzo Stella Maris beach.
Rainy day and water park: both are in Jesolo
To be honest: the region’s big children’s attractions are not in Cavallino but in the neighbouring resort. That is no disadvantage — the drive is short — but you should plan for it:
- Caribe Bay, the water park in Lido di Jesolo — in 2026 open from 30 May to 13 September, daily 10 am to 6 pm, children up to 100 cm free. Important: the ticket office closes at 3:45 pm. A spontaneous afternoon visit after a beach morning often does not work out.
- Tropicarium Park in the Palazzo del Turismo Jesolo — over 100 animal species, covered, the region’s rainy-day solution. Adults €20, children 4–14 years €16; grandparents pay the children’s price.
- Fabbrica della Scienza and Moon, also in Jesolo and also independent of the weather.
All prices, tariff levels and the savings calculation for families are on Jesolo with kids. One note in advance: Sea Life Jesolo has been permanently closed since June 2022 but is still recommended on many pages — do not plan it in.
The Venice day — shortest from here
This is the second big advantage of Cavallino: Punta Sabbioni lies at the western end of the peninsula — the ferry landing practically on your doorstep. From there the vaporetto takes you straight into the city, with no car journey and no parking problem. With children this is the decisive difference from any bus or car option: the trip across the lagoon is itself part of the programme.
How it works in practice, which lines run and how long you need is under Day trip Punta Sabbioni → Venice. What you actually do in the city with children is under Venice with kids.
Note: on certain days an access fee is due for day visitors. As an overnight guest in an establishment in the municipality of Venice you would be exempt — but Cavallino-Treporti is a separate municipality. For campers from here the exemption therefore does not apply automatically; check the calendar. The 2026 application period ended on 26 July.
What suits your family?
| Your situation | Recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Camping on the beach, children 4–12 | Pirate cruise from your own pitch | No transport needed — the easiest item on the programme |
| Toddlers or grandparents along | Pirate ship from Jesolo rather than from Cavallino | In Cavallino you would have to wade into the water and climb a ladder |
| A day without a programme and budget | Bike ride to Lio Piccolo | Flat, child-friendly, flamingos — costs only the hire bikes |
| Rainy day | Tropicarium in Jesolo | There is no covered alternative of this size in Cavallino itself |
| Venice once | Vaporetto from Punta Sabbioni | Shortest route of all the Adriatic resorts; the lagoon crossing is an experience in itself |
| You want water park and bustle | Jesolo with kids | Caribe Bay, Tropicarium and the evening markets are all there |
Frequently asked questions
Which campsites does the pirate ship call at?
In Cavallino-Treporti there are eight: Marina di Venezia, Union Lido, Garden Paradiso, Ca’ Savio, Camping Europa, Camping Mediterraneo, Camping Sant’Angelo and Camping Residence. The exact departure time depends on the beach section and is shown when you book.
Do you really have to wade into the water to board in Cavallino?
Yes. The operator states it explicitly: in Cavallino-Treporti there is no jetty — you walk into the water and climb a ladder on board. In Lido di Jesolo (Piazza Brescia, Piazza Trento, Piazza Nember), by contrast, you board dry from the pier. If you travel with toddlers or do not want to get into the water, choose the Jesolo boarding point.
From what age is the pirate cruise worthwhile?
The programme — tattoo, headscarf, knot exercises, skill games and the staged boarding manoeuvre with cannon shots — is aimed at children of roughly four to twelve. Very small children may be frightened by the shots; teenagers are often already too old for the games. The trip lasts 90 minutes and runs Monday to Friday.
What do you do in Cavallino-Treporti when it rains?
Not much on the spot — the covered family destinations of the region are in Jesolo: the Tropicarium Park in the Palazzo del Turismo, the hands-on exhibition Fabbrica della Scienza and the experience tour Moon. The drive there is short. Details and prices are under “Jesolo with kids”.
Is the bike ride to Lio Piccolo worthwhile with children?
The hinterland is completely flat, and the paths lead through salt marshes and past orchards — very doable for families. With some luck there are flamingos in the lagoon basins. Take sun protection and water; shade is scarce on the route.
How do we get from Cavallino to Venice with children?
Via Punta Sabbioni at the western end of the peninsula: from there vaporetti run directly to Venice — no car journey, no parking search, and the trip across the lagoon is an experience for children in itself. Details on lines and journey times are under “Day trip Punta Sabbioni”.
Are we, as campers, exempt from the Venice access fee?
Not automatically. Overnight guests in accommodation within the municipality of Venice are exempt — but Cavallino-Treporti is a separate municipality. Check the calendar of fee days; the fee only applies on certain days between 8:30 am and 4 pm. The 2026 application period ended on 26 July.
