Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in Venice — Venues Compared, Tickets & Dates

Historically, it is Santa Maria della Pietà on the Riva degli Schiavoni. Vivaldi worked at the adjoining Ospedale della Pietà — a charitable institution for orphaned and abandoned girls with a celebrated orchestra and choir — from 1703 to 1740, with interruptions, and wrote much of his music for its musicians. The present church was consecrated in 1760, after Vivaldi’s death in 1741, so he worked in an earlier building. The acoustics are still excellent and the symbolic value is unmatched.

It varies by ensemble and programme, and it is not always stated in the listing. If period instruments matter to you, check the programme description or the organiser before you buy rather than assuming it.

Expect roughly 75 to 90 minutes. The four concertos take about 10–12 minutes each, and many programmes add a second work or a short interval. Allow another 10–15 minutes for entry before the start.
