Getting to the Adriatic Beach Resorts near Venice 2026: Car, Train & Plane to Jesolo, Bibione & Co.

Three ways to the Adriatic — which suits you?

🚗 Car

The most flexible way, ideal with luggage and family. From southern Germany/Austria via the Brenner (A22) or Tauern → Villach → A23, then onto the A4 towards Venice/Trieste. Each resort has its own A4 exit (see table).

🚆 Train + bus

Relaxed, without traffic jams and tolls: train to the nearest regional station (San Donà, Portogruaro, Latisana, Cervignano), then the ATVO connecting bus to the beach. A combined train + bus ticket can be booked in one step from Trenitalia.

✈️ Plane

Fast from across the German-speaking countries: Venice Marco Polo (VCE) or Treviso (TSF), for Grado/Lignano also Trieste (TRS). ATVO runs daily from the airport to the beaches; alternatively a fixed transfer directly to your hotel.

Distances and journey times are rough guides and vary with traffic and season. The operators’ timetables (ATVO, Trenitalia, APT) are binding.

By car via the A4

Two main routes lead from the German-speaking countries to the upper Adriatic: over the Brenner (A22) via Verona onto the A4 heading east, or via Villach/Tauern onto the A23 and then the A4. The A4 (Autostrada Serenissima) is a toll road; no vignette is needed in Italy, you pay at toll stations along the route. Each beach resort has its own exit — from there it is usually only 15–30 minutes by country road to the beach. In high season (July/August) and on Saturdays an early or late arrival is worthwhile, because the coastal roads around the holiday complexes fill up. If you do not want to park in Venice, leave the car at the resort and take the boat, bus or vaporetto for the city visit.

By train + ATVO connecting bus

Without a car you travel comfortably by train to the nearest regional station and change to the ATVO connecting bus to the beach. The most important hubs are San Donà di Piave (for Jesolo and Cavallino-Treporti), Portogruaro (for Caorle), Latisana (for Bibione and Lignano) and Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado (for Grado). Handy: with Trenitalia the combined train + bus ticket can be booked in one go, with the bus fare added automatically. Connections from the German-speaking countries are offered by ÖBB/DB services via Munich–Verona or Villach–Udine to Venezia Mestre, from where the regional trains branch off to the coast.

By plane + transfer

For a fast journey, Venice Marco Polo (VCE) and Treviso Canova (TSF) are the options; for Grado and Lignano, Trieste (TRS) is often closer. ATVO runs several times a day directly from the airport to the Adriatic beaches (Jesolo, Cavallino, Caorle, Bibione, Lignano). If you travel with beach luggage and family, you may prefer a fixed transfer directly to the hotel to the scheduled bus — no changing, no waiting. If you want to stay mobile, take a rental car from the airport. Tip for frequent parkers: booking airport parking at your departure airport in advance is usually cheaper than on the spot.

Book the airport transfer VCE → Jesolo Lido in advance

If you are holidaying in Jesolo and land at Venice airport (VCE), a fixed transfer directly to the hotel gets you there without changing or waiting for the next scheduled bus. More relaxed than the public bus, especially with beach luggage and children. Check availability and price here:

Frequently asked questions about getting to the Adriatic

What is the nearest airport for the Adriatic beach resorts?

For Jesolo, Cavallino and Caorle, Venice Marco Polo (VCE) is the nearest; Treviso (TSF) is a good-value alternative. For Bibione, Lignano and Grado, Trieste (TRS) is often closer. ATVO runs from VCE and TSF directly to the beaches; alternatively there are fixed airport transfers to the hotel.

Can I get to the Adriatic without a car?

Yes. Take the train to the nearest regional station (San Donà di Piave, Portogruaro, Latisana or Cervignano), then the ATVO connecting bus to the beach. The combined train + bus ticket can be booked in one step from Trenitalia.

Which A4 exit do I take?

San Donà/Noventa for Jesolo and Cavallino, Santo Stino di Livenza for Caorle, Latisana for Bibione and Lignano. Grado is reached via Palmanova and the A23 towards Cervignano.

Is a car worth it if I also want to visit Venice?

For the beach resort itself, yes — flexible and convenient with luggage. For the Venice day, though, it is better to leave the car at the resort and take the boat, bus or vaporetto: parking in Venice is expensive and the approach over the Liberty Bridge is prone to traffic jams in summer.
