Vaporetto Line 22 Venice: Seasonal Fast Link Punta Sabbioni → Hospital & Northern Cannaregio
In brief: ACTV vaporetto line 22 is a seasonal fast connection between Punta Sabbioni (Cavallino-Treporti) and the northern Cannaregio edge of the main city. It runs directly to the hospital (Ospedale Civile), then on to the Fondamente Nove “C” pier and finally to S. Giobbe at the station end of Cannaregio. Not to be confused with the Burano lines — line 22 does not go to Burano. From Punta Sabbioni to Burano, take line 14 (via the Lido) or line 12 from Fondamente Nove. Line 22 is primarily the commuter and hospital line for travellers staying in Cavallino-Treporti who want the north of the city (the Ghetto, Strada Nuova, Fondamente Nove as a springboard to Murano/Burano).
What line 22 actually does
The standard lines for travellers from Punta Sabbioni into the city are line 14 (via the Lido to San Zaccaria/St Mark’s) and line 15 (the fast San Marco link). Both head for the south side of the city — good for San Marco, Castello and Dorsoduro.
Line 22 does something different: it crosses the lagoon from Punta Sabbioni straight to the northern edge of the city — past St Mark’s Square, past the Arsenale, to the piers that serve Cannaregio. In detail:
| Stop | Where to get off |
|---|---|
| Punta Sabbioni “A” | Starting point — pier in Cavallino-Treporti, reached by bus or car from the beach |
| Bacini “a richiesta” | Stops on request only — behind the Arsenale, for shipyard workers |
| Ospedale | Venice’s main hospital (Ospedale Civile SS. Giovanni e Paolo). Right by the Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo with the Zanipolo basilica and the Colleoni equestrian statue |
| Fondamente Nove “C” | North-eastern edge of the city. Key interchange for line 12 to Murano, Burano, Torcello — line 22 acts as a feeder to the island services here |
| S. Giobbe | Western end of Cannaregio, near the Jewish Ghetto and Santa Lucia station (8-min walk). Final stop |
Character: Line 22 is a functional line — not a sightseeing boat like line 1 on the Grand Canal, but fast transport for commuters, hospital visitors and travellers heading specifically for the north of the city.
When does line 22 pay off for travellers?
| If you … | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| … are staying in Cavallino-Treporti / Punta Sabbioni and want the north of the city | Line 22 saves considerable time over line 14 + a change |
| … want to reach Murano, Burano or Torcello from Cavallino | Line 22 to Fondamente Nove “C”, change there to line 12 or line 13 |
| … want to go straight to the Jewish Ghetto or the Strada Nuova in Cannaregio | Line 22 to S. Giobbe (final stop), then a ~10-min walk to the Ghetto or the station |
| … have a hospital appointment in Venice (Ospedale Civile) | Line 22 is the only direct approach — the pier is 100 m from the main entrance |
| … want San Marco / St Mark’s Square | Line 22 is the wrong line — take line 14 or line 15 |
| … want to go directly to Burano | Line 22 does not go to Burano. Line 22 to Fondamente Nove, then line 12. Or directly line 14 via the Lido |
Seasonality: active in summer, suspended in winter
Line 22 runs as a summer seasonal line, typically between May and September. In the winter months it is suspended — there is then no direct fast connection Punta Sabbioni → hospital/northern Cannaregio, and travellers fall back on the standard lines (14/15 to the south, then change).
The current seasonal availability and live timetable are in the table at the top of this page — the data comes directly from the official ACTV feed.
Fares and tickets
Line 22 uses the regular ACTV vaporetto fare:
- Single ticket 75 min: €9.50 (as of 2026)
- 24-hour pass: €25 — worth it if you use other lines too
- 48-hour pass: €35
- 72-hour pass: €45
- 7-day pass: €65
Tickets are available at the ACTV machines at the Punta Sabbioni pier, online via the AVM/Venezia Unica app, or at the counter. For Cavallino/Jesolo travellers with frequent city trips, the Cavallino-Treporti day pass, which combines bus and vaporetto, is often worth a look.
Line 22 compared with lines 14 and 15
| Aspect | Line 22 | Line 14 | Line 15 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Destination sestiere | Northern Cannaregio, Ospedale | San Marco / Lido / Burano | San Marco direct |
| Season | May–September | All year | High season |
| Journey time | ~45 min to Fondamente Nove | ~70 min to San Zaccaria | ~30 min to San Marco |
| Best for | Commuters, the Ghetto, island connections | St Mark’s day trip, Burano | Fast arrival at San Marco |
Connections at Fondamente Nove
Fondamente Nove is line 22’s most important stop, because the entire island service of the northern lagoon starts here:
- Line 12 — directly to Murano (10 min), Burano (45 min) and Torcello (50 min)
- Line 13 — to Murano and Sant’Erasmo
- Lines 4.1/4.2 — the ring around the city with a Murano stop and connections to Castello and Dorsoduro
- The cemetery island of San Michele — a single stop with line 4.1 or 4.2
Practical tip: If you are staying in Cavallino-Treporti and planning a day trip to the northern lagoon islands, take line 22 to Fondamente Nove in the morning, then line 12 to Burano or Torcello. Return: line 12 back to Fondamente Nove, line 22 back to Punta Sabbioni. That saves a complete circumnavigation of the city.

Does line 22 go to Burano?
Does line 22 run all year?
No, line 22 is a summer seasonal line. It typically runs from May to September. In winter it is suspended — fall back on lines 14/15 to the south and change in the city. Current seasonal availability in the table above.
How long does Punta Sabbioni → Fondamente Nove take with line 22?

Is line 22 worth it for day-trip commuters from Cavallino-Treporti?
Yes — especially for travellers heading for Cannaregio (the Ghetto, Strada Nuova), the hospital, or as a springboard to the northern lagoon islands (Murano/Burano/Torcello). For a pure St Mark’s day trip, line 14 or line 15 is the right choice.
Do I need an extra ticket for line 22?
No — line 22 uses the regular ACTV vaporetto fare. Single ticket €9.50 (valid 75 min), 24-hour pass €25 etc. If Cavallino is your base for several days, look at the Cavallino-Treporti pass (bus + vaporetto combined).
